{"id":1259,"date":"2010-01-21T00:00:25","date_gmt":"2010-01-21T00:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dimsumdolly.com\/?p=1259"},"modified":"2010-01-21T00:00:25","modified_gmt":"2010-01-21T00:00:25","slug":"tung_chung_to_tai_o","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dimsumdolly.net\/?p=1259","title":{"rendered":"Tung Chung to Tai O"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Instead of taking the cable car to the big bronze Buddha statue in Ngong Ping, my fellow hikers and I took the healthier but much longer option of hiking all the way there from Tung Chung (where the MTR station is). From Ngong Ping, we hiked for another 1.5 hours to the fishing village of Tai O. Here are pictures from the hike that took place on 9 Jan.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4010\/4262809346_992d0c7c28.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_9387\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nA photo taken at the start of the hike. Our first rest stop was the cable car tower at the top of the picture.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4001\/4262062633_eaa23720a6.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_9397\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nWalking on the broadwalk that follows the same route of the cable cars above.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4006\/4262817472_f367d7e204.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" alt=\"IMG_9406\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nAt this point of elevation, we were able to see Hong Kong&#8217;s Chep Lap Kok international airport and the cable cars at the right of this photo.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4002\/4262822998_72d71a783c.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_9416\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nAt our third rest stop, there were several wild dogs who were eyeing the food brought by hikers passing through.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4066\/4262071173_60b09b7d77.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_9417\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nOur lunch stop accorded us a lovely view of the sea and airplanes flying towards the airport &#8211; spot the plane on the left upper third of the photo! We were probably about 450m above sea level at that point.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4034\/4262827098_2a314209cc.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_9422\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nOne for the album! It doesn&#8217;t look like it, but it&#8217;s really the sea down below. The clouds have cast their shadows on the sea hence it looks a little dark!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2511\/4262831782_d94308d96f.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_9431\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nA view of the Buddha from afar. I love cities that are surrounded by water. There&#8217;s something about the ocean that I find so compelling.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2746\/4268392445_5f05687500.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_9441\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nAlong our way to Tai O, we came across a family of free roaming cows. The calf is so cute! Never expected it in Hong Kong, did you?<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4070\/4262878110_96a5c52488.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" alt=\"IMG_9462\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nAn old lady hangs fish out to dry at her home in Tai O. The residents of Tai O lead such a vastly different lifestyle from fellow Hong Kongers. You almost can&#8217;t believe it&#8217;s Hong Kong when you&#8217;re in Tai O.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2731\/4262910340_508df2e58e.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_9466\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nTo reward ourselves after a 5-hour hike, two fellow hikers and I treated ourselves to a bowl of soya beancurd each in Tai O&#8217;s village centre.
