I found that Beppu wasn&#8217;t actually that nice a city and preferred Yufuin instead. Here are some pictures to give an idea of what the town&#8217;s like.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2696\/4517757283_6e1ee9c8af.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0740\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nThe twin peaks of Mount Yufu loom behind Yufuin.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4017\/4517490991_deaef4d8e8.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_0696\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nColourful koi lanterns and toys decorate this tree, adding some charm to the small street where it stands.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2180\/4517496835_bdae475653.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0699\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nA mother and her son soaking their feet in the public foot bath that&#8217;s just beside a car park. I love these public foot baths! Such a cool idea!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2711\/4518132538_d28c9fd826.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0700\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nAfternoon tea &#8211; the swiss roll on the right is very popular with the Japanese for some reason. We saw many people eating it so we decided to try it. However we were very disappointed as it tasted really ordinary!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4062\/4517506929_e74eeb381f.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_0703\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nEggs being cooked in water from the hot spring being sold for 100 yen each.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2746\/4517521621_3fa4b0531b.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0711\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nMy favourite shop &#8211; a shop selling stuffed toys and other memorabilia of characters from famed director Hiyao Miyazaki&#8217;s animated films. I love Totoro the most!!!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4004\/4518190910_aeff2545e3.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0721\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nA shop specialising in different types of chilli and soy sauce.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4004\/4518248446_b947a39cff.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0733\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nI love this glass house which houses a shop selling pottery ware and a cafe.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2771\/4517675307_cdfdde382f.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0746\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nFor fans of Marc Chagall, there is a small musesum with some of his artworks inside. It&#8217;s about a 20-minute walk away from the train station. Just follow the signs.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4067\/4518328948_ec7515ba58.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_0750\" \/><\/a><\/br><br \/>\nFor die-hard Hello Kitty fans, there&#8217;s a mini shrine next to the Hello Kitty shop.<br \/>\nYufuin is somewhat touristy, but it&#8217;s touristy in a pleasant way. Many Japanese people like to go there for a weekend getaway and it&#8217;s also a place where there are many onsens (hot springs) you can visit.<br \/>\nGetting there: From Beppu take a train to Oita (\u5927\u5206). Then from Oita Station hop onto the Limited Express train on the JR Main Kyudai Line.
