Recently, a friend told me that part of the reason she went to Canada to further her studies was the fact that the guy she liked was also studying there as an overseas student. But he had never told her he liked her and neither had she told him how she felt about him. As they had been chatting quite a bit with each other prior to her going to Canada, she thought they could perhaps take their relationship further if she could be in the same place as him. At the same time, she was also looking to further her studies and have a change of environment.<\/p>\n
Shortly after she went over, however, she discovered that he had a girlfriend back in Singapore as he talked about her during a conversation. Strangely, before that, this guy had never mentioned his other half and many of their mutual friends were also unaware of the existence of this girlfriend. Weird, huh?<\/p>\n
Naturally my friend was very upset and disappointed. But she couldn’t confront him about the matter either as he had never promised her anything nor had she ever told him about her feelings. Thankfully, she had loads of stuff to do take her mind off the heartache. There was school, meeting new people, going out to explore the city which she had moved to etc.<\/p>\n
What surprised me about my friend was that I had never thought that she’d be capable of doing something like that. That is, to choose a particular city to move to because of a guy. She had always seemed to be the kind of person who treads on the safe path and she had never talked about liking anyone in the time I had known her. I was surprised that she had decided to quit her job and leave Singapore. Most people her age would be too nestled in their comfort zones and be too afraid to leave their cushy jobs for fear of change.<\/p>\n
I’m proud of my friend for having had the courage to take a stab at the chance – even though misjudged – of finding love.\u00a0Maybe love, and even just the prospect of it, gives a person a little more courage to do certain things.
