The nicest ones are in Lantau Island, Sai Kung and in the northern part of the New Territories. The one shown in the picture above is called Hula Skirt Falls (草裙瀑布) and is found along Ping Nam stream (屏南石澗) in Fanling (粉嶺).

The best part about summer in Hong Kong is going to the streams for a dip and standing under the waterfalls. Having the water washing down on me is so refreshing and rejuvenating. Being nestled in the arms of nature and enjoying what it has to offer is such a blessing. The best thing is such pleasures are free for all to enjoy. There is no entrance fee nor discrimination as to who is allowed in. I just hope no one comes along to destroy such beauty in the name of urban development.

Waterfalls and streams also have a magical effect – they turn adults back into children who whoop and play in the water like there’s nary a worry in the world. For those fleeting moments, they offer a respite from our troubles and concerns – and that is enough already.

Unbeknownst to many people (even locals and long-time residents), many waterfalls and streams can be found in Hong Kong whether in Hong Kong island, Kowloon or the New Territories.
