Increasing appearances of white hair, wrinkles and sagging skin\u00a0aside, I’m feeling the years creeping up on me from these situations:<\/p>\n
1. I can no longer tick the ‘Age: 20-29’ option in forms that I have to fill in.<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0For my travel luggage, I have ‘evolved’ from using a huge backpack to a trolley bag. Shoulders don’t want to bear that kind of weight anymore.<\/p>\n
3. When\u00a0I’m being\u00a0called ‘\u9753\u59d0leng jie<\/em>‘ (pretty lady) rather than ‘\u9753\u5973leng lui<\/em>‘ (pretty girl) by street vendors in Hong Kong who are trying to solicit business. Or in Singapore, called ‘\u5c0f\u59d0xiaojie<\/em>‘ (lady) rather than ‘\u5c0f\u59b9xiaomei<\/em>‘ (girl).<\/p>\n 4. When\u00a0photos of\u00a0my friends’\u00a0kids\u00a0start showing up endlessly on\u00a0my Facebook feed. Or when all\u00a0my friends can talk about are their kids, schools and enrichment classes.<\/p>\n 5. I have been feeling very lazy to make new friends.\u00a0I’m a bit sick of answering questions about where I am from, how long I have been in Hong Kong and what I work as. I am tired of asking those questions of people too. A jaded 30-something phenomenon for you.<\/p>\n 6. When I\u00a0find myself saying “Young people these days…”<\/p>\n 7.\u00a0When I’m standing in front of and delivering an English\u00a0writing course to a big group of fresh graduates.\u00a0Being so young and fresh out of school, most of them are so earnest in taking notes.
