There is something very nostalgic and romantic about sending postcards – it captures a moment in time when I’m happiest while out exploring the world and harks back to a time when snail, rather than electronic, mail was the norm.

I enjoy the act of picking out postcards and deciding who is to receive which. I generally try to pick out postcards that are more unique like Moomin postcards to represent Finland rather than one with a photo of a tourist attraction. And if I can do some good in the process even better – in Cambodia, I bought postcards from a charity shop that helped the deaf.

I also love seeing the stamps of the different countries and get a cheap thrill out of slotting the postcard into the mailbox, imagining its flight across the seas and the joy of the intended readers upon receipt of the postcard.

While in Finland I couldn’t help but get those Moomin postcards and stamps shown in the picture above. This is me playing my part in keeping the art of snail mail and postcard writing alive!

Whenever I travel, I make it a point to send postcards to my immediate family and closest friends.
