A township is the equivalent of a slum and I decided to go only because the people there receive some money for it. In summer there are evening concerts and locals flock there to enjoy some music and just relax on the soft grassy lawns with their picnic baskets overflowing with food. The gardens has a vast array of flowers that are native to the Cape flora kingdom.

A dassie we spotted at the top of Table Mountain. Nelson Mandela was on this island for 20 out of the 27 years he was imprisoned. Best to book your tickets early if you are planning to visit the island.

Upon arriving by boat you will board a bus for a 45-minute around the island with commentary by a guide. At the end of the bus tour we were brought on a guided tour of the prison cells by a former political prisoner. We saw the cell that Mandela was in and once again admired the magnanimity and wisdom of a man who had so big a heart to forgive the people who did him wrong.

The Food Market at the V&A Waterfront is a smorgasbord of food.
