It was my first time there and I was primarily there to visit an aunt. My aunt and her husband took me around and one of the places they took me to was the wine region of Barossa Valley.

Th Barossa Valley is picturesque with acres and acres of vines yards gently rolling across the region. We stopped by several wineries for some tastings, but the place I liked best was Maggie’s Farm Shop. The shop and cafe bear the name of its owner Maggie Beer, an Australian cook, food author, restauranteur and food manufacturer.

Feast on good quality breads that come with pastes in flavours such as spiced pear, fig & fennel, and quince. Or enjoy some burnt fig, honeycomb & caramel ice cream on a hot summer’s day. For something savoury, sample a variety of pates; the duck, vino cotto & star anise pate was my favourite. I also liked the mushroom & verjuice pate.

Even though the farm shop is far from the city and is not accessible by public transport, it does not lack customers. There were so many people when we were there on a Thursday afternoon. And I can see why! Maggie’s Farm Shop really is a gourmet’s delight!

During my recent trip to Australia I also made a pit stop at Adelaide.
