After a night spent in Munich, I flew to Sarajevo to meet my aunt and her four friends. After travelling alone for a week, it was nice to meet up with some fellow travellers. It can lonely after awhile as a lone traveller and I’m not exactly the kind of person who can strike up conversation with anyone and everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n

The capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina looked rather drab to me, no doubt still suffering from the effects of the war that raged in the early 1990s. Many<\/span>\u00a0of the buildings had still not yet been restored to their former glory; some showed signs of mortar shelling.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the city centre, we saw the religious and ethnic mix of the country in the Orthodox churches, Catholic churches and mosques from the Ottoman era.<\/span><\/p>\n

Food-wise, we tried pita <\/i>which was a savoury dish made from phyllo pastry filled with cheese, ground meat or spinach. We also tasted Bosnian coffee which wasn’t to my liking as it was too strong.<\/p>\n

After Sarajevo we went to this mountain resort town called Jahorina. There isn’t too much to do there except to hike in warmer weather or ski in the winter. The hiking trails are marked well with red and white circles. There are also black fungus and other edible mushrooms to be picked along the way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
