Sydney’s public transport fares are set to rise even further! About a week ago, public transport fares, which include the buses, trains and ferries, increased by 40cents and in the news today, it has been reported that the fares are set to increase even further. The exact words – “Big Hikes”.
\nTo give you an idea of how exorbitant prices are, here’s a lowdown on some of my transport fares. Based on current fares after the recent hike, I have to pay a freaking $8 for a return ticket to the city if I take the train before 9am. After 9am, it’s $4.80. The funny thing is that single trip tickets do not differ much in prices compared to a return. A single trip ticket costs 60cents less and NOT 50% less.
\nArgh…all these increases WITHOUT a corresponding improvement in services. What’s even more annoying is that international students do not get student concession on public transport. The student unions of the various universities have been lobbying for years to get concession for international students, but the state government of New South Wales remains evil and refuses to budge. The state government of Victoria is the same. Other Australian states give transport concession to international students.
\nOf course, it helps to know that the states of New South Wales and Victoria have the most international students present!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Ooohhhhh….how annoying is this????????
