the different morsels of the life of a foodie

Dining With DimSumDolly

About a year ago I came across the website Dining With Strangers, and was intrigued by how Anthony, a journalist in Washington DC, started this website based on getting strangers to book a meal with him and he would then proceed to interview them over the course of the meal. This is his fun side project that allows him to write in a different style from the one he has to depend on for a living. I’ve read a number of his interviews and have found them interesting. He has interviewed porn stars, a jazz musician, a strip club waitress, a cellist etc, each with their unique life story.

With permission from Anthony to replicate his idea and taking this as a social experiment, I will offer to treat a stranger to a meal if he/she has an interesting story to share. I want to find out what food means to you. It’s somewhat similar for me as I’d like to write about something that has a greater element of fun; I don’t get to write fun stuff at work. I’m not getting any money out of this nor am I writing this for any form of publication. The only platform my writing will appear on is my blog dimsumdolly.com.

To set expectations from the start, I’m not going to treat the person to a posh dinner at a Michelin-star restaurant. I would if I could, but unfortunately my slim paycheck doesn’t allow for such extravagance. If I take you out to a meal, you must agree to be written about and photographed for the blog post. You can tell me your dietary preferences or let me know of any special dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian) or suggest some reasonably priced eating spots (about HK$200 max per person).

What then could YOU get out of dining with me?

  1. A free meal
  2. You can pick my brains about where to eat and hike in Hong Kong

I’ll choose who I want to treat based on responses to the two questions below.

  1. What’s your story? The more unique and eccentric the better.
  2. If you were a food item, what would you be and why?

Email your responses to dimsumdolly@gmail.com with the subject heading ‘Dining with DimSumDolly’.

Whether you are living in Hong Kong or just visiting, if you have an interesting story to tell or a product/cause you want to promote over a free meal, email me with responses to the two questions above.
