While summer in Hong Kong is very hot and humid even by my standards (I have a very high threshold for heat), it’s also the time where my hiking buddies and I revel in all the coastal and stream treks we get to do. Once temperatures go down, we won’t be able to partake in such activities, hence we’re trying our utmost to go on as many “wet” treks as possible – weather and our bodies permitting. Here’s one we did two weeks ago in an island called Tap Mun 塔門 (known as Grass Island in English) within the Sai Kung peninsula.

We had to take a ferry from Wong Shek Pier to get to Tap Mun. The fare is a very affordable HKD14. You can also hire small speed boats at the pier to take you there (HKD20). To get to Wong Shek Pier, take Bus 94 from the bus terminal at the Sai Kung town centre.

The north face of Sharp Peak, Sai Kung’s highest peak standing tall at 468m, looms majestically in the distance. Just a few weeks ago, we had scaled that peak from sea level in an overnight hike that lasted from 11.45pm to 8am!

Here we go again

The pebbles on this beach actually bounce off other rocks when you throw them down. Not sure why this is so, but you gotta be careful if you throw one down as it may come bouncing back to hit you in the face!

Taking a breather and cooling off in the water. We took every opportunity to dip in the cool water as it was a very hot day!

And the sun sets on yet another beautiful day spent in Sai Kung. I don’t want summer to end!!!
