Snapshots from Taipei

A few more snapshots from my Taipei trip – not so much on food but more on the sights I encountered.

Two men brought about 10 dogs with them – seven golden retrievers, one border collie, one collie and one mixed breed – to the Xinyi shopping district to solicit donations for these dogs (and probably others) that have been abandoned by their owners.

The dogs were so beautiful and friendly and this one just came up to me on its own! I really love dogs and I’m bummed that I can’t have one in HK. It wouldn’t be fair to the dog if I kept one – I wouldn’t be home most of the time and it’d be so lonely. It’d make a good companion though. Oh well.

A van belonging to a pet grooming business that specialises in poodles. It seems like it’s a very popular dog breed in Taiwan. First time I’ve seen a car with eyelashes.

Ahh…my favourites – scones, canales and madeleines. Taipei has really good bakeries with a wonderful selection of breads, pastries and cakes. The quality of the ingredients used are usually good and it’s probably a good thing I don’t live in Taipei. Otherwise, I’ll stuffing myself with these carbs every day!

I love these cute displays in Zakka shops which are named after shops in Japan that are usually independent retailers or boutiques that carry their own unique fashion lines, fashion accessories, or homeware. Many Zakka shops in the Yong Kang shopping district (永康街).

Zakka shops usually have small potted plants outside with other quirky displays to make the shop look inviting and welcoming to potential customers. And yes, I totally fall for it; willingly suckered into stepping in and in some cases, parting with my money as well.

What a cheery wall! I love Doraemon!!!
