Took a two-day, one night trip to San Shui (三水), a smaller city in Guangdong Province with some friends. The main purpose was for my friends to take photos of lotus flowers in Lotus World. Here are some shots from the trip.

We took a coach direct from Hong Kong’s Prince Edward MTR station to San Shui. Upon reaching there, we went to Cui Keng village (翠坑村) to visit my friend’s ex-colleague who lives in that village.

Villagers sitting outside the village store on a Saturday afternoon.

The couplet on the right says “Being free to choose your spouse brings great happiness”. Maybe that’s still up for debate.

Small plots of farm land in the village. It’s like we were city bumpkins – the villagers were bemused at us snapping away with our cameras.

Lotus World is a park full of lotus worlds, which is probably the only attraction in San Shui. Tourists mainly come here in summer because that’s the season when lotuses are in bloom. Other than that, there’s nothing much to come here for.

There are many varieties of lotuses here, but frankly after awhile I got really bored as I’m not such an avid photographer. My friends however, were armed with their DSLRs and could spend like an hour at just one spot!

Had we gone a month earlier, we could have seen more flowers. However, many of the lotuses had already bloomed.

I loved the giant lily pads and it was interesting to see the bottom of the leaf as the man was lifting the leaves out of the pond. Anyway, San Shui is not a city I’d go to again. Once is enough ‘cos it’s really not that exciting!
