Entrance of the guesthouse (民宿) I stayed in. Lucky House (吉屋出租): No 7, Lane 79, Haian Road, Central Western District, 700 Tainan

My room was very clean and comfortable. It came with its own bathroom and there is a TV in the room. Free Wi-Fi is also available. The guesthouse is located in a convenient part of Tainan.

Many of Tainan’s guesthouses have retro interiors which are really charming! The city is trying to preserve this old-world feel. This picture was taken at another guesthouse a friend brought me to.

Have a notebook handy when travelling in Taiwan as you can collect stamps (aka chops) of places you go to. It’s good fun and serves to remind you of the places you’ve visited!

Blueprint of a building along Haian Road Art Road (海安路藝術街). The facades of many buildings along this street have become art canvasses for local artists. Definitely worth having a look. This particular building houses a bar and restaurant also called Blueprint.

Freshly baked traditional pastries

Taiwan style non-fried spring rolls (潤餅), which is somewhat similar to the ‘popiah’ in Singapore. The ingredients used are different though. For one, they use sugar instead of sweet sauce, and they have no cooked radish.

Shennong Street is a small street along Haian Road. It’s a historical street with several art galleries, handcraft shops and bars. People still live in some of the houses there so try not to be too noisy as you walk through it!
