The Long Absence

I know, it’s been an eternity since I had last written; it’s probably the longest time in between posts since I started this blog 10 years ago. Yes, it’s been a decade and sometimes I can’t believe I still have this blog. Admittedly, I’ve lost steam in my writing and was even thinking of shutting down the blog. I doubt anyone is even reading anymore, but that’s fine. That means I can write whatever I want and no one’s going to know! Hurray!

In the past few blog posts, I guess it was pretty obvious I was somewhat depressed which I suppose also led to my not writing. But anyway, I’m better now and I’m making an effort to stay positive by focusing on good things, thinking positively and reading motivational biographies of people overcoming adversity to triumph in life. When you read of people starting off with circumstances much worse than you, suddenly your life doesn’t seem so bad after all. I just read a book recently which encouraged us to take a “worldview perspective” of things. That is, when you encounter a setback or problem, think about the world at large and problems that other people in the world are facing. Doing that will most certainly make you feel less helpless and negative about your own situation.

Anyway, I was offered and have accepted a place in a Masters programme in a university in Hong Kong, which means I have committed myself to staying in Hong Kong for another three years for my part-time studies. I’m happy with this development in my life; I miss being in a place of reading and learning, and I’m looking forward to starting school in September!

Meanwhile, I’m still hiking regularly in Hong Kong and love getting away to the mountains for some respite from the busy city life. Next weekend, I leave for a holiday in Turkey…more photos to come after the trip, if only for myself to keep a record of my life!

Happy weekend!
