Using non-traditional ingredients like baby spinach, red and yellow capsicum, vegetarian ham, and eight-grain rice
From Korea I crossed the strait and moved on to Japan. Well, I thought of making maki rolls for myself because I was sick of eating sandwiches and wraps I had to grab from Pret on Monday and Tuesday nights, ie school nights this semester. To attempt this dish, I had to buy white vinegar, nori seaweed and the bamboo mat.
I didn’t use traditional Japanese ingredients as I was trying to use up food in my kitchen. So I had eight-grain rice instead and used vegetarian ham strips, raw baby spinach and strips of raw red and yellow capsicum.
My first attempt at making maki rolls wasn’t too bad but I will be using short grain brown rice next time and will experiment with other ingredients for more variations.
