The Year of the Horse, my year, did not gallop off to that great a start for me. On the third day of my time back in Singapore, I fell ill with a runny nose and cough which has lasted till now! This is one of the worst bouts of cold and coughs I’ve ever had and I was just resting at home a lot. Couldn’t even manage a swim in the pool even though the sun was shining nice and bright. My plans for getting a nice tan back in Singapore went up in smoke. Sob.

Thankfully I had my mum to mother me. On Sunday night she even had to accompany me to the A&E clinic at the hospital near my home to see the GP as I was in a pretty bad state. If I hadn’t gone to the hospital, I probably wouldn’t have been able to board the plane yesterday for my flight back to Hong Kong. At the hospital, the doctor made me go for a blood test which tested negative for influenza and mycoplasma, but he said I had a lot of bacteria in my blood and subsequently diagnosed it as a bad case of sinusitis. I was given a lot of meds – so much that even the nurse who dispensed it had a shock and said she had better double check with the doctor before dispensing it.

Anyway, I’m now back in Hong Kong and still having the cough and sniffles. Have just seen a traditional Chinese medicine doctor. Let’s hope the combination of East and West helps to cure me faster! It sucks to be ill. It’s when such things happen that one is reminded once again that health is wealth.

To a healthy Year of the Horse, I say!
