Made my way to the northernmost point of Europe, Nordkapp (latitude 71 10′ 21″), also known as North Cape in English. The harsh beauty of this Finnmark, the northernmost and easternmost county of Norway is stunning with the soaring mountains that are perpetually carpeted with snow, the perilous cliffs along the coast and the biting cold.
I had gone in the hope of seeing the midnight sun whereby the sun doesn’t drop past the horizon in summer. However, it was too cloudy a night and so I didn’t get to witness this phenomenon. Such is life – luck plays a part and sometimes it’s just not meant to be.
A bit more to go to the North Pole. Never been so far up north in my life! Can’t say I enjoy the chill. Bbbbbrrrrrrr.
Trolls are supernatural beings in Norse mythology and apparently disguise themselves as rocks in front of humans; the tunnel that leads one to Nordkapp; near the fire is where I want to be; a scene from the hotel I was staying in the night I went to Nordkapp.
