Bergen

I loved Bergen, a scenic port city on the southwest coast of Norway. The row of houses in the middle row are the Hanseatic buildings of Bryggen (Norwegian for quay), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These used to be warehouses for goods imported from Northern Norway and Europe; today museums, shops, restaurants and pubs stand in their place.

Floibanen, the funicular in Bergen, takes you up to Mount Floyen where you can take in a panoramic and spectacular view of the city.

Being a port city, it is no surprise that Bergen is a seafood paradise. I tucked into some wild Norwegian salmon, fresh prawns, Alaskan crab and mussels. It’d be a sin to visit and not try these jewels from the sea.

A pensive me looking out to the city as I ride up the funicular. I’m happiest when I’m travelling and discovering new places.

Despite being the second most populous (274,400 according to Wikipedia) city in Norway, Bergen is actually very quiet compared to most cities in Asia. It’s very pleasant with lots of greenery and pretty, colourful houses. Definitely a great place to spend summer and do some hiking. No time for that this trip unfortunately!
