French Toast

For me, there’s something very comforting about French toast because it reminds me of the times my sis and I used to help our mum make it as kids for breakfast on occasional weekends. We used to help whisk the egg, milk and sugar together, and I would enjoy soaking the slices of white bread into the yellow, milky mixture.

What’s not to love about French toast? Who can resist that melodious sizzle of the bread as it’s placed in the pan and that delicious golden brown coating on the bread’s surface once the fire has done its work? How can one not savour the moment as you sink your teeth into a moist and eggy slice of bread drizzled with earthy honey and topped with a dash of cinnamon for good measure?

I had to finish up some milk today and decided to make French toast as I didn’t want to drink the milk. You’re probably wondering why I bought the milk then. Well, it was for another recipe I was trying out but that turned out to be a disaster so I dumped the cake away. So anyway, I ended up making French toast. Interestingly it’s the first time I’ve made it in HK. A rather decadent homemade breakfast for a workday. But you know, if there’s one thing I do very well, it’s feed myself!
