My late nights at the office earned me a nice dimsum lunch today courtesy of my big boss. I’m always game for dimsum, and the food was delicious! Any restaurant that’s part of the Tung Lok group of restaurants is almost guaranteed to be good.
Yesterday I had a Chinese immersion programme–I had to be at a seminar organised by one of the top universities in China. So for the whole day, I was stuck in a function room with a whole delegation of Chinese lecturers. They teach English but most of them aren’t very fluent in the language when it comes to speaking. The way they speak English is like how I speak Chinese.
Everything was conducted in Chinese and I was trying hard to keep up. I think I understood 80% of what was said. Not tttoooo bad I suppose. But extremely trying, especially when these people speak so fast and use terms I’m unfamiliar with.
Anyway, it felt weird to be the only Singaporean amongst a whole group of PRC Chinese when I’m in Singapore! I happened to be appointed the task of being the company rep–actually all I had to do was bring the projector which we had agreed to loan to them and of course I had to stay till the end to take the projector back with me.
I definitely should work on my Chinese.
