the different morsels of the life of a foodie

Art & Food Combined

After dinner at IndoChine on Thursday, my friends and I adjourned to TCC (The Coffee Connoisseur) for dessert. I was very taken with the cafe as it had comfy beanbags for people to lounge in and it was also an art gallery where budding artists could showcase their works. I shall save my words and let my pictures speak for themselves.

Some of the artworks hanging on the walls. The name of this exhibition by two artists was “FluidAbstractions”. There were some pretty good pieces, most of them selling for prices between S$500 and S$2000. Notice the low cloud-shaped tables, the bean-like chairs and the beanbags on the floor! It’s somewhere one would go to at night but definitely not in the day, especially a weekday, lest you fall asleep on one of those beanbags and forget to head back to work!

A slew of architectural, design and photography books and magazines await customers who are interested in these subjects. I relished it of course.

Another one of the artworks that hang on the walls of the cafe. Good spot lighting and strategic lighting lining the floor help to highlight the various pieces. Kudos to the architect and interior designer.
I love this concept–the combination of a visual and gastronomical feast. Definitely heightens the whole dining experience. Of course, this is not the first cafe which has done so, and it’s nothing revolutionary, but I think this cafe has done up its decor very well and has taken pains to make sure that the artworks are displayed to make them look in their best light. There is also a concerted effort made to give the place a distinct identity as a cafe which supports the arts by having those books for browsing.
I hope to see more places like that sprouting up!
