I bought meself a dragon lantern! I also wanted to buy a couple of small goldfish lanterns also made of such coloured cellophane paper, but these are so popular that they’ve already sold out weeks before the Mid-Autumn Festival. So festival is three weeks away and I thought I was early, but it seems like like-minded Singaporeans have beaten me to it! I’m so disappointed.
I love such lanterns ‘cos it brings back fond memories of childhood. The paper lanterns are nice too. However, it’s a no-no to plastic battery-operated lanterns. They’re so ugly and artificial. NOTHING beats the warm glow of a candle flame flickering in the cool breeze, shadowplaying on the coloured cellophane or paper. Plastic lanterns should be banned!
It’s time to buy some mooncakes and indulge!
