To drive away the Monday blues, I thought a picture of some yummy Nonya kuehs might help. This was a stall along one of the shophouses in Joo Chiat. I was there on Saturday evening with my family who went there to eat the Katong Laksa, which seems to have spawn a franchise of sorts. Every other laksa stall seems to be selling ‘Katong Laksa’.
For the non-Singaporeans, ‘Katong’ is just the name of an area in Singapore. Laksa is a Peranakan dish, made of white rice noodles soaked in a gravy that’s made up of chilli paste, spices, and coconut milk. It also contains cockles, slices of fish cake, bean sprouts, and prawns. Very yummy. Anyway, one stall in this area became famous for its Laksa and now everyone’s riding on its name.
But anyway, I have a penchant for all these Nonya kuehs (sweet cakes). They’re so pretty! Of course, they’re yummy too!
