C for Crowds

So here’s a bonus ‘C’ post since I had posted a blog entry for Sunday, forgetting that I didn’t actually need to! But since I have done so, I shall not delete it.

Instead I shall write about how I’m increasingly afraid of crowds. I’m finding myself less and less tolerant of crowds. While in the normal tourist spots in Chongqing, I was caught in the Chinese holiday crowds. And my god, this is the first and last time I’m travelling over any public holiday in China.

The picture shows the Chinese definition of a holiday. 😐

So on my second and last day in Chongqing I decided I would stay in rather than join my travel companions on a day tour to the countryside. Normally I would be up for going to a rural area, but I just knew it wouldn’t be my idea of relaxing when being herded along with a big bunch of Chinese tourists and heading to the same destination as other tour buses. Most likely I would have gone ballistic before half the day was up.

But this is what it is travelling in the more urban areas in China. So I decided instead to relax in the hotel, go to the gym, then run a bath and relax, and have a leisurely lunch and dinner at my own pace.

In Hong Kong, I’m also finding myself dreading the crowds more and more. Most days I just want to head home straight after work to hole up in my flat and relax. On weekends, I only want to go to the mountains.

Maybe this is a sign of age?
