I believe money can buy happiness. I believe I would be a happier person if I had more money. Whoever says otherwise is bullshit.
I buy myself holidays as I love travelling and discovering new places. I buy myself nice meals as I enjoy eating well and savouring the fruits of labour of talented chefs. Or I “buy” myself some good karma by donating to causes I believe in. SG Gives is a good website for donating to charities in Singapore. Or I buy things for the people I love, knowing that those things would make them happy.
I think a lot about my expenditure. It is unfortunately a finite resource for which I need to think carefully on where I should allocate it. However I do make sure I save some portion of my salary every month.
Apart from fixed costs such as rent, transport and food, I usually choose to spend on experiences. Experiences which give me stories to remember, tell and share as opposed to accumulating things.
So yes, money can buy happiness and I have realised it’s how you choose to spend your money which determines whether or not happiness is bought.
