I heard this song a lot, probably five or six times a week in my dad’s car, as a child. At that time, I didn’t give thought to the lyrics nor knew what they were about. It was just a fun song to sing along to whenever it came on the cassette player (yes, I grew up in the cassette tape era). Now, 30 years later, I think que sera sera is definitely a good philosophy in life to live by. As I grow older, I have come to realise that we can’t control everything in life. Sometimes shit happens for some reason or another. And perhaps it wasn’t even of your own doing! Now that’s when it gets frustrating. But what to do? Que sera sera. As one would say in Singlish, “Like that lor.” Just have to move on, ain’t it?
