X for Xie 瀉

Ok, am cheating here with a Chinese character which has its hanyu pinyin as ‘Xie’ but X is a difficult letter!

瀉 can mean to flow out swiftly or flood. But it is often used to refer to diarrhoea which is what I came down with today. After I woke up this morning I started throwing up and having the runs. It’s probably something I ate last night. 🙁

The only positive thing about food poisoning is that your body has undergone an unintentional detox. I have only drunk the Pocari energy drink today to replenish the electrolytes in my body and I’ll go to bed soon. At the unearthly hour of 6pm, despite having woken up from a three-hour nap at 3pm.

It’s when I’m struck down with illness that I’m reminded again how health really is wealth. Many take it for granted until something goes wrong. I have to admit that it’s also during such times where I feel sorry for myself, being in a foreign country alone etc. But self-pity is useless and I give thanks instead to friends who would be willing to help if I ask it of them.

Right, off to bed to get some much needed rest.
