Prague adventures

Finally ticked Prague off my bucket list of cities to visit – it had been sitting in the bucket for way too long! The city is lovely with all the grace and beauty of a culturally and historically rich European city. I arrived on a Monday afternoon and spent the rest of the day exploring the old town by myself.

On Tuesday 13 September, I booked a private bike tour with a local guide and he took me through little lanes and nice spots with great views which I would never have found on my own. It was the first time I have ever gone on a bike tour and I really enjoyed it! You get to cover more places than you would go on foot and it helps that Prague is a bike-friendly city with cycling lanes on major roads.

The next day I got that same guide to take me to the Bohemian Paradise, a UNESCO geopark about 2.5 hours away from Prague’s city centre by the subway and bus. We hiked around the uniquely shaped sandstone rocks and then hiked to the ruins of Trosky Castle, a Gothic castle built in the 14th century. Along the way throughout the hike, we munched on apples we plucked from trees blooming with the ripened fruit. It was so nice to be able to eat fruits straight from its source! We also plucked wild blackberries from bushes and plums from trees. Hiking in autumn in this area means you will never have to go hungry!

On my last full day in Prague, I went on a hike to and around Karlstejn Castle with the same guide. This time a Canadian couple joined the day’s outing which also meant I could pay less. Nestled against the backdrop of the autumn foliage, Karlstejn Castle looked like a scene from a postcard. It was nice getting out and about in such fine weather.

I was blessed to catch Prague in all her autumn fineness in the 4.5 days I spent there. The gorgeous weather allowed me to do all the outdoor activities I had planned for myself and I thoroughly enjoyed the city. Glad I went!
