I should really be starting my first post of 2017 with some talk about the future. But nevermind, let’s back date a little and start off with some photos I took during my trip to Taichung over the first weekend of December.
A visit to the National Taichung Theater is a must. It’s a beautiful space for the performing arts with its fluid lines and ample space for people to stroll around. There is a roof top garden and a restaurant visitors can dine in.
An apt Christmas decoration seen outside Miyahara ice cream parlour (宫原眼科).
The old Taichung train station – a beautiful old building dating from 1905 while Taiwan was being occupied by the Japanese.
Rainbow Village (彩虹村) was created by an old man who started painting murals on the walls of the veteran village he lives in. With all the colourful and quirky pictures, he made it a tourist attraction. Admission is free but be mindful of the residents and not speak too loudly. Best visited at day time.
Location: Nantun District
Book reading space in a public space and a shelf for putting in books you want to share with others. Every city should have more of these!
Public parks and green spaces dot the city – an important feature for liveable cities!
Stopped by the Eslite Tea Room (勤美誠品) for brunch. A big brown stuffed bear was the only other customer on a Monday morning.
The Mushroom bagel brunch set at Eslite Tea Room.
