As a Christmas treat, five of my colleagues and I went to Pasta Brava for lunch after work yesterday. It was a halfday so we headed off to this cosy Italian restaurant along Craig Road after wrapping up for the day.
When we got there, we first uncorked two bottles of wine, one red and one white. As I’m a wine idiot, I don’t really know how to tell what’s a good or bad wine. But according to my colleagues who are more well-versed in the subject, both were good and the white was declared ‘light and fruity’ by one of them. I opted for the white ‘cos I really needed something cold after a walk in the hot sun from the office. I know, not the best reason for the choice of wine. Heh.
For starters, we had two vegetarian dishes ‘cos two of the diners were vegetarians. The sauteed portebello mushrooms were succulent and delightfully flavoured. We also had some roasted eggplant and red and yellow peppers which were also tasty with its light coating of olive oil. Both starters really whet our appetites for the mains.
For mains, I chose the homemade pasta, which were cut into thin triangular pieces, cooked with prawns and scallops in a tomato and cream sauce. There’s nothing like homemade pasta and I would most certainly opt for it in a good Italian eatery such as this one where it’s available. The dish did not disappoint. The scallops and prawns were fresh, the sauce was delicious as it was neither too heavy nor creamy which made it easy on the palate (I’m not a big fan of cream sauces).
For dessert I went for the traditional, good old Italian tiramisu. Just felt like it. This was divine too. Enough alcohol soaking through the sponge fingers, enough cream and mascarpone with just the right amount of coffee powder sprinkled on top. Haven’t had a good tiramisu in a long time!
I stepped out of the restaurant as happy and sated as a suckled baby. 🙂
