I went on another project with the Conservation Volunteers of Australia (CVA) today. This time I went to Middle Head which is one of the headlands which forms the magnificent Sydney Harbour. Middle Head is very scenic as well, but I don’t think anything can beat North Head at Manly which I went to two weeks ago. This is because at Middle Head, the ocean cannot be seen and one can’t quite see the distinct Sydney skyline from there, unlike at North Head.
There were only a total of 3 volunteers today, so I didn’t find it quite as fun ‘cos there weren’t as many people to talk to. The four of us, including the team leader, managed to do quite a fair bit of weeding considering the small crew we had. So we were pretty pleased about that.
At Middle Head, lunch is always provided to volunteers so that’s one perk of signing up for this particular project. ;p The first time I volunteered with the CVA I went to Middle Head and had a great time, which was what prompted me to return for more projects with the CVA. That was back in April. I remember we spotted this water dragon (it’s actually this lizard about 40cm in length) and her baby! Pretty cool stuff.
It was a beautiful day today. The sun was shining, there were clear blue skies and as we worked, we saw more and more sailing boats sailing at a leisurely pace in the harbour. The winds were calm and slow so it was a perfect day for sailing. How I wished I was on one of those sailing boats! It would be the perfect afternoon to chill out on the deck with some food and a book.
Anyway, I had a good day and am looking forward to participating in more projects!
