Sydney’s Covid numbers hit a new high of 319 new cases today. Sigh. When can we see the light of the tunnel? When can I get on a plane again? I miss Singapore, Hong Kong and seeing new places. Ah, that feeling of curiosity when one arrives in a new place.
These days I look back at the ‘Memories’ on my Facebook account to look back at old photos and reminisce about the times I was hiking in Hong Kong and other places I had travelled to. Drawing on that memory bank brings some comfort and joy. Three years ago this time, I was on a hiking trip in Krygyzstan with friends from Hong Kong. On that trip, I also stopped by Hong Kong for several days before heading back to Singapore and then back to Sydney.
Perhaps this is what it will feel like when I’m really old and can no longer do the things I love. Like money, I believe building a huge reserve of experiences in your memory bank is important for old age and times like these.
I think international travel will take awhile to return to what it was pre-covid. I’d still be wary of going to less developed countries and would probably be avoiding those for awhile. But that’s thinking a bit far – I’d be happy to just be able to fly back to Singapore!
