Cherries

One of the best things about summer in Australia is cherries – eating and picking them.

I love cherries and more so the ones picked by myself! A and I picked 7kg in total while my uncle, aunt and cousin picked a total of 19kg. I gave some away to my neighbours and friends, and have been eating cherries every day since I picked them on 3 January. I think I’ve had my fill of cherries for the season. Haha.

As to why I’m wearing that sexy (not!) hat, it’s cos it’s really hot and the UV rays are strong. That’s my bushwalking hat and unfortunately there are no stylish hats that offer such coverage. If there’s such a hat, please let me know.

We went to Borrodell estate which sits high on a hill and has a fantastic view of the region. We paid $8 a kg; compare this to $20 or more for the same quality of cherries one would have to pay in Sydney.

After picking cherries, we bottle a bottle of Moscato to enjoy at their skybar. It’s a great way to spend a summer’s day.

Orange is a region in New South Wales known for its wine, vineyards and cherry orchards. Orange sits about 250km west of Sydney and takes about 3.5 hours to reach by car.
