I found a really good place for 油条 (fried doughsticks) in Causeway Bay. This eatery is called 知粥長樂 Congee and they also sell congee and 肠粉 (steamed cheong fun). It’s along the road parallel to Lee Garden Road. I think it’s called Lan Fong Road. But just down the road from Congee is a Starbucks outlet which is at the street corner. The 油条 is so crisp and light and when you bite into it, the sound of that crunch is like music to the ears. Eating it with a bowl of hot 豆浆 (soy bean milk) is the perfect way to start the morning!
A friend who has lived in HK for five years also brought me to Pho Saigon 西贡越南汤河, a Vietnamese food eatery. The food there is endorsed by my friend who’s Vietnamese Australian who says the other Vietnamese eateries he has tried aren’t very authentic.
There were three of us. One had a beef pho noodles, the other had a bowl of noodles which tasted like tom yum soup and I had these steamed rice rolls filled with vegetables which had to have fish sauce drizzled on it. The bowls of noodles were huge! Thankfully mine was a light snack.
The food was really yummy and I reckon one of the better Vietnamese food I’ve ever tasted. So far, the only cities I’ve had good Vietnamese food are in Sydney and HK. The ones I’ve tried in Singapore haven’t been that good in comparison.
It has three branches:
G/F, 224A Fa Yuen Street, Mongkok
G/F, 319 Hennessy Road, Wanchai
R4, 7/F, Island Beverly, 1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay
