Coastal Trek to Po Pin Chau (破邊洲)

Last Saturday saw me and my hiking buddies on another coastal trek along the Sai Kung coastline near the east dam of High Island reservoir. Last year, I had done the same route but in the reverse direction with another hiking group. No matter how many times I’ve been to Sai Kung, I never get sick of it. The beauty of the peninsula takes my breath away every time I’m there and I feel so in touch with nature each time. For the past four weeks or so, I’ve gone to Sai Kung every weekend; I don’t think I’ll ever tire of it.
This was our second attempt at this route. Two Saturdays ago, we couldn’t finish the route as the waves were too strong due to the easterly winds. Last Saturday however saw fine weather with slow westerly winds. Here are the pics of our adventure.

Inviting turquoise blue waters greeted us

Our group leader, a daredevil through and through, climbs to the top of the cave and leaps from it. *gulp*

The basalt columns formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago look like a magnificent pipe organ in a cathedral.

Another guy in the group dives into the pool at our lunch spot.

There were many sea urchins in the water but they were too small to be eaten. We did actually have a knife with us, all ready to cut one open to have some fresh uni.

Swimming across the strip of water that separates Po Pin Chau from the mainland. Through the gap, the east dam’s breakwater is visible.

Breathtaking scenery, lovely waters, gorgeous sunshine and awesome company – what more can one ask for of a Saturday day out?
