Pull the Shades Up, Please!

What’s the point of seating you next to a window, only to have you pull the curtain shades down 100% of the time? Now that’s the question I’d like to pose to all the people who sit by the window on my floor, including my cubicle mate.
I mean, seriously, windows are there so we can look out to the sky (even if it’s a murky white and grey most of the time), have some sunlight stream in and make us feel less trapped in this cage of an office building. So I don’t understand what’s with these people who keep the shades down when (1) there is no glaring sunlight (2) no one can peek in unless you count the eagles who occasionally fly past.
How is it these people don’t feel the need for space, imaginary as it is, that windows offer? How is it these people don’t like having some sunlight stream in? How is these people don’t like looking out to the sky? How is it these people can’t appreciate seeing the eagles soaring in the sky?
