Oodles of Noodles in the Land of Pho

Yes, I’m off to Vietnam tomorrow for a holiday! Taking four days of annual leave will allow me to have a 11-day holiday because of the Qing Ming, Good Friday and Easter Monday public holidays. My friend and I will just be touring the north – Hanoi, Halong Bay and Sapa. We’ll be fitting in some hiking at the latter. Meals at Bobby Chinn and La Badiane also await us.

This is my first time in Vietnam and I’m really looking forward to it. Travelling is what I really live for; it’s what excites me. Wanderlust is a chronic condition that requires an air ticket to alleviate the itch every once in awhile. I’ve also told myself that every year I must try to go to a place I’ve never been before. For a person who has lived in Southeast Asia most of her life, I haven’t actually explored much of the region which is why I decided on Vietnam. Plus, I really like Vietnamese food. Food is always one of the determining factors in my choice of holiday destination.

The purpose of a holiday is to enjoy myself. Food is, to me, a form of enjoyment and has to be one of the highlights of a trip. To be honest, I’m not much of a museum person. While I don’t mind going to a museum or two to look at important cultural and historical exhibits, I can probably only spend three hours max in a museum. After that, I need to be out walking around the streets, observing the street life, weaving in and out of little lanes, sipping tea at a cafe, reading in a park, hiking in the mountains, swimming in the sea etc.

So have a good weekend and keep well while I’m traipsing around the north of Vietnam!
