I was at the outdoor patio of Hysan Place – Hong Kong’s newest mall in Causeway Bay (銅鑼灣) – awhile ago and came across this scene. The flats looked like Lego blocks stacked on top of one another and had an old Hong Kong charm about it. The ageing and greying buildings have a gritty quality which is a stark contrast to the spiffy, sleek skyscrapers that stand behind it. Therein lies the charm of Hong Kong though. That interesting mix of contrasts means you never know what you might find round the corner or in some narrow alley.
