Inspired after watching Masterchef, I’ve been pottering around in my kitchen more often of late. I’ve also been getting fed up with the long lunch queues and mad lunch crowds that I now try to brown bag it at least once to twice a week. Last week I managed to bring three lunches – a soba salad on Monday and Tuesday, and a quinoa salad on Wednesday.
I wake up earlier to prepare my lunches but I think it’s worthwhile doing so. At least I know what goes into the food I eat and I don’t have to deal with the lunch crowds which is a source of stress for me.
Unlike those who find cooking troublesome, thus preferring the convenience of eating out, I really enjoy the creative and therapeutic aspects of the cooking process. I like creating something with my hands, and cooking is something where you can see the results of your creation fast. And what’s more it can be eaten!
I don’t save much money from cooking for myself as I tend to buy better quality stuff for my home cooking. In fact I think I spend more as stuff are often not sold in individual portions. I end up having to throw out food sometimes, but it’s something I try to avoid as much as possible.
Usually I like taking my food to eat at the ferry pier and sitting at a bench overlooking the harbour. For an hour, I enjoy the view of ferries and other vessels sailing past, lunch time joggers pounding the pavement, and an old man fishing away. If you happen to be there and spot me, come say hi. 🙂
