My countdown into 2014 was a very low-key one spent in the MTR train on my way home from a friend’s place. Perhaps it’s age, but practicality took precedence over counting down at my friend’s place where I had dinner with a bunch of Singaporeans. So I left her place at 11.15pm to avoid the crowds. By the time I got home it was close to 12.45am.
A sound night’s sleep followed and I was up at 8.30. Had breakfast while Facetiming my family back in Singapore, did some household chores and I was out of the house for my favourite activity in HK – hiking.
So to kick off 2014, I hiked in Sai Kung, my favourite part of HK. It was a scenic 14km hike accompanied by fine, gorgeous weather. Hiking is the only thing that keeps me in HK. Without the hills, I wouldn’t like it that much here. The hills are so convenient to get to and provides a great respite from the craziness of the city.
I’ve found that nature really soothes and calms my soul and it’s where I go to to seek balance. Among nature, I’m at peace and am truly happy in the simplest sort of way. I hope to be able to seek more of these moments in my life.
For 2014, I wish for inner peace and contentment. May I be able to find it!
