Not the traditional mooncakes but these flaky pastry mooncakes filled with yam paste are one of my favourites! Very fattening, but what the heck??? They taste SO good.

The biscuit inside these red and yellow baskets are actually made from leftover dough from the mooncakes. In order not to waste the dough, the bakeries make it into shapes of mini piglets and placed them in these baskets. It was said that in the olden days in China, these “Zhu Long” (猪笼 pig baskets) made of bamboo were used to drown adulterous couples. The villagers would place the adulterous pair in a basket each and throw them into the sea.

These fish and pigshaped biscuits cakes are also made from the leftover dough from the traditional mooncake pastry. They were so cute that I couldn’t resist buying them! So basically the mini piglets, the goldfish and this fat pig taste the same.
