the different morsels of the life of a foodie

Ouch….my shoulder, arms and back muscles are aching! But I’m glad for it ‘cos it’s all due to the wakeboarding I did yesterday. Oooh, I had the most exciting time!
Monomania, Sassy Slumbering Girl, another uni mate of ours and I had arranged to go wakeboarding. All of us, except Monomania, were new to the sport. We made our way to Punggol Marina and got onto the boat at 9am. Just the boat ride alone was nice enough–enjoying the breeze, the water, and basically just getting out of the city.
kelong
One of the kelongs (houses on stilts) we saw along the way to the spot where we wakeboarded. Few of them exist these days in Singapore and it was nice to see a few of them still standing.
Anyway, we soon got started. Monomania, having done it once before, went first. She got up easily, and was wakeboarding like a pro. I was third in line and soon found myself falling numerous times in an attempt to actually get up and gliding on the water. My motor skills had seemed to disappear momentarily. On the other hand, Slumbering Sassy Girl who went after me took to it like fish to water. She was a natural at it. She was up and going after four attempts!
Thankfully, I eventually managed to find my motor skills, and I was up and going! Yipee! Very exciting! Everyone should give this a try! But be prepared to get lots of salt water (which isn’t exactly the cleanest in the world) in your mouth. Quite gross.
Hanging On Tight 1
Wee!
The weather was good too yesterday. It wasn’t too hot but still I got slightly sunburnt. We went for a total of four hours. It was very relaxing being out in the boat for an entire morning. Even if you weren’t wakeboarding, just being on the boat and chatting with friends is enjoyable enough.
Wakeboarding’s a really good sport to build tone muscles though. My whole body’s aching but I’m all happy about these aches! Very fun…the four of us have agreed that we’ll do it again! It can get addictive I tell you!
As if that wasn’t enough physical activity for the day, I went home to rest for awhile, then had a tennis lesson from 5-6pm. I was flat out after my tennis lesson. BUT I still wasn’t done for the day.
After that, I went to meet two friends at The Substation where there was a opening of an art exhibition which featured artwork and installations attempting to raise awareness for animal and conservation issues.
The most interesting installation to me is the one shown below. It’s called “Elephants in Exile”. On each elephant is the label of certain types of people in society, for example: sojourner, runaway, outcast, immigrant, foreigner, pilgrim, Drifter, Nomad, Radical, Shopper, Traveler, Gypsy, Homeless.
Elephant 3
Everyone there was so intrigued by the installation. The elephants were all moving towards the end of the rectangular box, very reminiscent of a herd of them in the wild. These battery-operated elephants were so adorable. Their ears could flap and trunks could be raised like a real elephant’s! Children and adults alike were fascinated and thrilled by it. Notice that the part where the red words are actually has water in it. Such an ingenious idea!
Elephant 6
This toddler was especially keen on chasing after the elephants. He nearly went into the water as well, but his dad yanked (yes, it was literally yanking ‘cos the dad pulled him by his shirt!) him back just in time. Haha…it was funny…everyone was tickled pink by this toddler who seemed so keen on being part of the installation.
My friends and I were supposed to head to Zouk (the most popular club in Singapore) to celebrate another friend’s birthday. But I was so tired that I had to call it a day. Any more activity and I would likely find myself sick the next day, i.e. today.
So I got home at about 11.45pm (not THAT early I must say) and crashed into bed, aches and all. 🙂
