the different morsels of the life of a foodie

Had an interesting evening yesterday. Went for a Reiki sharing session just to find out more about it. I’ve a friend who’s learning how to be a Reiki healer at the moment, and she asked me and another friend of ours along for this session as we had told her we were interested in learning more of this form of energy healing.
As mentioned, Reiki is a form of energy healing. I had come across it a number of years ago from reading books on alternative medicine. I’ve always wanted to learn more about it but never had the chance to do so till now.
During the session, the Reiki teacher and a few of her students shared their experiences. I think it’s important to have an open mind when it comes to Reiki and other similar forms of healing.
Hearing them talk of different realms in this world and seeing ‘things’ might scare some people away. However, I think to reach that stage would need a very skilled practitioner and someone who’s very aware of energy forces to sense those other presence. Because Reiki is supposed to harness positive energy (which includes qualities like loving kindness, compassion etc), the Reiki teacher reckons that even animals can sense it around them.
They say that animals respond well to them, and even those which are aggressive to other people will turn all gentle on them.
Yes, I guess it is hard to conceive and be convinced of such happenings. I am by nature a very logical person and someone who needs explanation for everything. But I think there’s no harm in being open to such things. I still have my reservations and scepticism at times but I’m definitely opened to knowing more about these things.
Anyway, I had a go at Reiki healing. All you have to do is either lie down or sit on a chair, close your eyes and relax. The healer then places his/her hand over your head (without touching it) and would harness his/her energy in order to balance the client’s own. There’s no body contact at all and it’s quite amazing actually…I could actually feel some tingling sensations, a bit like static, around my head, neck, and shoulders. It starts from the head and works all the way down to the feet.
I couldn’t really feel anything (apparently it’s normal and you don’t always have to feel something) around my abdomen and legs. But I definitely felt some tingling sensation around my head, throat and heart area, particularly in the latter two. Apparently that means I have a lot bottled up inside i.e. emotional baggage and thinking too much and not voicing them out. The Reiki student who was doing it on me also felt particularly strong stinging sensations when she placed her hand over those areas. In any case, it’s true re the having many things bottled up inside. I think I think too much.
Anyhow, from a very zen and calm environment, my friends and I took off to a place which lies on the other side of the spectrum. Like way way on the other side of it. We headed for Velvet (for the non-Singaporeans, this is a disco) for a press launch of the upcoming play The Physicist. My friend had invites so she asked us along to have a look.
It was nothing very exciting though. The cast were introduced and some games were played where free tickets were given away. The sound system was atrocious. We couldn’t hear what was going on at all and soon we didn’t bother (we also couldn’t see much ‘cos we were right behind where the bar was). We decided to make ourselves merry with the free wine there. Haha. And of course later there was free food! Finger food from Michelangelo’s! So yummy. And we also got a deliciously sinful champagne truffle each, nicely wrapped one in a blue box, airflown from Switzerland! I think probably courtesy of the Swiss ambassador and his wife who was there to grace the launch.
The ironic part is that I came away without knowing anything about what the play is about–I still don’t. The only thing I remember about last night’s event at Velvet is the food. Hahaha!
