Q5. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?
Yesterday. Today. Every day. I hum to myself in my head on the commute to work or while seated at my office desk with my ear phones on. I also sing aloud to myself in the shower. I have been listening to Cantonese and Mandarin songs on YouTube, having them as background music and singing quietly along to them.
I’m making the effort to maintain some contact, so to speak, with Chinese. Apart from listening to songs I have also been watching Cantonese drama serials on line. I’m scared of losing touch with the languages and losing the ability to speak and understand the languages as I don’t get to use Cantonese or Mandarin much while living in Sydney.
While I’m a terrible singer, I do enjoy music. I mainly just tune in to Singapore radio, mainstream music, so nothing particularly high brow or alternative. It’s good to have some music playing in the background when I’m home alone. Like books, music is a great companion to the solitary.
