Q15. What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?
I think the biggest accomplishment in my life so far is having the courage to uproot myself to work and live in London, Hong Kong and Sydney. I had always wanted to see and experience more of what Singapore had to offer (not that it was/is bad) and I sought out ways to make it happen.
Relocating to anywhere presents a mix bag of emotions and experiences. You feel both scared, lonely (if doing it alone; good for you if you have a partner), frustrated, lost. At the same time, there is the excitement and exhilaration of new adventures and places to discover.
Relocating requires you to learn and navigate new systems. Things like how the banking, healthcare, pension and social system works. Anyhow I can tell you from experience that having to do all these makes one more world savvy. Sometimes I think I don’t give myself enough credit for it. I know many people who have neverĀ contemplated relocating and wouldn’t ever do so. They are even incapable of travelling alone because they are either scared to do so or always need some company. To do anything alone is beyond them.
So yes, that I have taken myself to live and work in different countries and cities all on my own merit is, I think, what I’m most proud of in terms of my accomplishments.
