When I was home

“Home” still refers to Singapore and I doubt that point of reference will ever change. My trip home this time round – three months ago now; how time flies – felt different. Three years had almost passed since I last saw my family and friends in Singapore.

Originally my trip had been scheduled for 31 March and I was going to be in Singapore for the whole of April. But because I came down with covid in the third week of March, I had to reschedule my trip to May, hoping that by the third week of May I would have recovered. Thankfully I did!

Until the plane actually left the tarmac, I was still feeling nervous that something might crop up to stall my trip again. I had thought I would cry when the plane landed at Changi but I had enough time over the 7.5 hour flight to compose myself and so I didn’t find myself in tears when my flight landed.

Oh how good it was to hear the Singaporean accents of the pilot and flight attendants! And to see the livery of a Singapore Airlines aircraft and sit in one again after a long hiatus!

I landed in Singapore past midnight local time. Returning to Changi Airport, entering Terminal 3 and seeing the large vertical garden at the baggage carousel area, and experiencing the fast service of Changi Airport really makes one proud to be Singaporean. Changi Airport is the best.

After collecting my luggage I caught a taxi home. My dearest mum stayed up to welcome me home and I was soon in my childhood bed fast asleep after a long day.

It was good to be home.
