How fast the week has gone by! On Friday night I met up with Terry and Charmaine, two friends whom I got to know in Sydney. We went to the city and had Vietnamese food for dinner. The food was delicious and we ate so much that we felt like beached whales after that.
After dinner, we went to Sydney’s most famous jazz bar/pub “The Basement”. There are live performances there every night, but frankly I wasn’t impressed by the place. I had expected a large venue with nice furnishings but it turned out to be just the opposite. The music however wasn’t too my taste as I didn’t enjoy the mix of acid jazz and rock. After one drink, we left and ended up in a 24-hour restaurant at Circular Quay.
There are some people you meet whom you just “click” with straight away. Terry and Charmaine happen to be such people. We talked the night AND morning away. Terry, always the gentleman, sent Charmaine and I home. By the time I got dropped off, it was 4:30am!
I fell asleep straight away and woke up shortly after at 7:10am ‘cos I had to get ready to meet another friend. One of my oldest friends, Jiayi, had come to Sydney for a holiday. I played host for the day by taking her to the Paddington Bazaar which takes place only on Saturdays.
The Paddington Bazaar is filled with Australians who peddle their handmade wares. Local up-and-coming fashion designers tend to start off their business in Paddington. World-renowned fashion designer Collette Dinnigan is one of the alumni. One can find locally designed and handmade clothes, jewellery, glassware, pottery and other handicrafts there. It’s a very myriad and eclectic mix of things which makes for interesting browsing.
After walking around the stalls, we walked along Oxford Street which runs through the suburbs of Paddington and Darlinghurst. There are many boutiques and cafes which line Oxford Street. The clothes are sssooooo nice but alas the price could easily cost us mere mortals an arm and a leg! (I was lusting after this long leather jacket which ends at mid-calf and could easily be in the set wardrobe of “The Matrix”. It costs $1250 but was going for a discounted price of $899. Still.)
It was a great day spent with Jiayi. It felt somewhat surreal to be meeting each other in Sydney. Anyhow, we had fun shopping and chit-chatting.
Sunday afternoon was spent at Yoshiko’s, my Japanese friend, birthday party. I found myself a little out of place at times as I didn’t really know anyone there and almost every other person was rattling away in Japanese.
Anyhow, I’m now going to end my day with a warm shower, snuggle under the duvet for some much needed sleep, awake to another beautiful day and feel all ready to start another week!
