I love interviewing verbose people and I think lawyers are probably one of the best people to interview. Probably an occupational hazard. Haha. The night before last, I interviewed a lawyer about a charity organisation he’s part of. I’m supposed to write an article about this organisation. Yes, I’m being paid for this article! Yipee!
Reticent interviewees are possibly a journalist’s worst nightmare come true. It leaves no quotable quotes to be used and having to think of words to put on paper is like squeezing blood out of rock. Thankfully, my interviewee was full of words and didn’t need much plodding. He gave me the answers to my questions before I was given a chance to ask them. What a dream.
I really enjoy meeting such people through the course of these writing assignments. It’s heartening to know that more civic groups are sprouting up in Singapore and there’s more community involvement within different groups of people in society.
Once I get my life in order, I hope to be able to devote some time to such things. Makes you feel like you’re part of a community you know?
